The High School Internship Program are non-paid positions.
Applicants must be in good academic standing to be considered. The program provides the opportunity to:
Gain exposure to the State’s legislative process
Apply classroom knowledge
Develop additional skills
Create a network of contacts
GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS
The combination of each intern’s expectations, interests, and assignment to the office produces a unique experience. The High School Internship Program provides a rare opportunity to work with a state legislator in the House of Representatives. Interns will be involved in an experiential learning process which provides insight into elective politics, civic engagement, and the opportunity to observe first-hand the dynamics of legislative decision-making. Strong written and oral communication skills, a basic understanding of government and the legislative process are helpful.
Legislative Support: Responsibilities may include research issues and tracking legislation
Constituent Services: Responsibilities may include drafting letters, researching constituent concerns or requests, preparing material for monthly newsletters, and attending events in the community such as Neighborhood Board Meetings, parades, etc.
Office Support: For those interested in continuing the internship through the end of the Session after May, intern responsibilities may include filing, answering the phone, preparing mail, and welcoming the visitors.

Office computer experience (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
